Harborough Town Under 21’s 6-0 Wellingborough Whitworth Reserves
Report – Josh Unsworth
The young Bees returned to home soil for the first time since mid-September after six consecutive away fixtures and marked the occasion in emphatic style with a dominant 6–0 victory over Wellingborough Whitworth Reserves.
Harborough controlled proceedings from the outset, enjoying the vast majority of possession and penning the visitors deep inside their own half. Despite constant pressure, chances were initially kept at bay by a resilient Whitworth defensive block and a busy goalkeeper who produced a sequence of fine saves to keep the scoreline level.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 37th minute. Lovell Edwards threaded an intelligent through ball into the path of Cyprian Mtenga, who showed great composure to lift his finish onto the crossbar and into the net, giving the Young Bees a deserved lead at the break.
The second half continued in the same pattern, with Harborough relentless in their attacking intent. Saad Hamrad was brought down inside the penalty area, and skipper Archie O’Donnell stepped up confidently to convert from the spot, doubling the advantage. Moments later, a superb trap press forced Whitworth into possession turnover, allowing O’Donnell to latch onto the loose ball and delicately chip the goalkeeper from a tight angle nearly 25 yards out to make it 3–0.
Substitutes Ollie Price and Martin Tsvetkov added further gloss to the scoreline. Price weaved brilliantly through four defenders before slotting into the bottom corner, while Tsvetkov finished clinically after meeting an excellent delivery from Edwards. The scoring was completed when Noel Las released Edwards down the left flank and he calmly slid his effort past the onrushing keeper.
Head Coach Josh Unsworth said:
“I’m super, super happy with today’s performance. In the first half we had to stay calm and not get frustrated by their low block. The message at half-time was to just keep doing the same, and I’m very pleased with how clinical we were in the second half. This is a very special group of lads, and the youth coming through are incredibly exciting.”
