Harborough Hornets opening league fixtures at the Goals Leicester Walking Football Sunday League Premier Division.

7th April

We had three fixtures lined up, but Unity Red failed to field a team so we were awarded a 5-0 default victory.

Our first game was against Stamford Strollers. The Hornets won comfortably and were 3-0 up within ten minutes. We had previously noted from an earlier game that the referee was being lenient on physical contact so used this to our advantage. Stu Wesselby and John Cornwell used their size and strength to control the middle of the pitch, and we looked dominant and full of confidence.

Our second game was against Oundle Town. Against the run of play we were down 1-0 early on due to a penalty awarded for an illegal back pass and this appeared to unsettle us at first. Confidence was restored by an equaliser and then a second to take the lead. When Oundle scored an equaliser late on we thought we might have dropped points but a superb curling shot by John Cornwell straight from the kick-off ensured justice was done and we took away all the points.

Our next fixtures will be played on May 5th.
