Harborough Town Spencers (10) – (0) AFC North Kilworth Reserves

Player of the Match – Chinonso Emekekwue
Report
– Tony Sansome

Harborough Town Spencers continued their excellent recent form with a dominant double-figure victory over local opponents AFC North Kilworth Reserves, producing a ruthless attacking display from the first whistle to the last.

While the visitors were clearly missing a number of players, Spencers still had to take full advantage — and they did so emphatically. Much like the previous fixture, the hosts made a blistering start, scoring three times inside the opening seven minutes to seize early control of the contest.

The deadlock was broken after just three minutes when Chinonso Emekekwue rose unmarked to nod home a Sam Aldridge corner. Barely a minute later, the lead was doubled as Hubert Witkowski capitalised on a defensive error, showing great awareness to lob the advancing goalkeeper. Seven minutes into the match and it was already 3–0, with Emekekwue prodding home from close range after Aldridge had seen an initial effort blocked.

To their credit, Kilworth enjoyed a decent spell of possession following the early setback, but Spencers remained composed and patient. Their fourth goal arrived on 36 minutes after some excellent work near the byline from Joe Brown, who cut the ball back for Aldridge to finish confidently. Just minutes later, Aldridge struck again in similar fashion, this time after good wing play from Witkowski, sending Spencers into the break with a commanding advantage.

The half-time team talk focused on maintaining intensity, pressing higher up the pitch and protecting the clean sheet — instructions that were carried out to the letter after the restart. In the 52nd minute, Emekekwue completed his first hat-trick for the club following good work from Reece Mutebi, rounding off a perfect treble with goals from his left foot, right foot and head.

Ten minutes later, Witkowski added his second of the afternoon, pouncing on another misplaced defensive pass. Despite losing Ben Brown to injury and finishing the game with ten men, Spencers finished strongly, scoring three times in the final eight minutes.

Joe Brown produced an unstoppable volley after yet another assist from Aldridge, before substitute Alex Kemp added the final two goals — both set up by Witkowski — to complete a remarkable afternoon.

Man of the Match could easily have gone to several players, but Emekekwue was a deserved winner after scoring his first hat-trick for the club on his first start in several weeks. Particularly pleasing was the clean sheet for Avwerosuo Emekeme, which will do the goalkeeper’s confidence no harm at all.

Good luck to Seb and his Kilworth side for the remainder of the season, until the two teams meet again in February.
