Player Profile
Danny Newton (Newts) has had a breadth of experience within the football league. The striker from Liverpool has played both EFL and non-league football. Newton started out in the Leicester City Academy after moving to Leicestershire from the Northwest. This led to his senior career beginning with Hinckley United. Soon followed short spells with Nuneaton Town, Barwell, Brackley Town and Leamington. At Leamington, Newts became the club’s top scorer during the 2014/15 season and securing him a move to Tamworth.
Here he made his official breakthrough, as he scored 39 goals in 79 appearances for the Lambs. Newts won a hattrick of awards at Tamworth being crowned Manager’s Player, Players’ Player and Fans’ Player of the Year. This performance led to a selection for Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy (a programme which helped non-league footballers showcase their talent to professional clubs). In 2017, Danny Newton was called upon by Stevenage, and he ended up making 45 appearances for the League Two side that season with a G/A of 22. He was notably recognised as Player of the Season at this club and finished as the club’s top scorer.
After many years floating amongst the football pyramid, Danny Newton found himself at Harborough Town. The proven striker was described by manager Mitch Austin as a “defender’s nightmare”. Newts initially scored 4 goals for the Bees before his loan spell back with Brackley. He was then recalled in March 2026 and helped the side to secure the Southern Premier Central Title. A standout moment to remember would be his 4-minute opening goal against AFC Rushden and Diamonds in the FA Trophy. This was his first major goal for the club.
