Player Profile
Paul (Molly) Malone joined the Bees in 2021 from Peterborough Sports. He has since become a family favourite after helping Harborough Town reach the Second Round of the FA Cup. From scoring the opener against Tonbridge Angels to assisting the dramatic equaliser at Reading, the reliable campaigner certainly made the difference. Molly was presented to the Bees as a centre-back, however his persistent aerial threat convinced manager Mitch Austin to give him a chance up front. In fact, Paul Malone netted 7 goals in his first 10 appearances for the club. The soon turned bagsman continues to score for the Bees as he rescued 3 points against Marine in a late 2-1 victory this season.
The 36-year-old is well recognised at both Step 2 and 3 with previous spells at Corby Town, Kettering Town and Peterborough Sports. Molly recorded a total of 199 appearances for Corby Town and scored 38 goals for the Northamptonshire side. Unsurprisingly, the versatile defender was awarded Supporter’s Player of the Year for the Steelmen in successive seasons. Not only did he bring valuable non-league experience to Harborough Town, but he also provided a strong FA Cup pedigree. After signing with Peterborough Sports in 2019, Paul Malone featured in 3 FA Cup ties for The Turbines.
In Harborough Town’s first season at Step 2, Sweet Molly Malone has been recognised as an impact sub who fans can rely on to convert in the dying minutes of a game. Austin has mentioned that Paul Malone is “an unbelievable footballer and leader on and off the pitch.” The Corby-born allrounder has been a mentor figure for his teammates and fans ever since becoming a Bee and we wouldn’t change a thing!
