Harborough Town Spencers advanced to the third round of the County Cup, but were made to work hard for their 4–2 victory after a spirited second-half comeback from visitors AFC Andrews.

The hosts started brightly and broke the deadlock early following a slick passage of play. Hubert Witkowski produced a mazy run before squaring for Isaac Carter to sweep home from close range. The same duo combined again just five minutes later, doubling the lead as Spencers continued to press forward despite a few shaky moments at the back.

The advantage was extended further on 26 minutes with another well-worked move — Farid Hamidou setting up Reece Mutebi to finish neatly and make it 3–0. The attacking momentum continued, and it was four before the break when Mutebi followed up his own partially blocked effort to bundle home, giving Harborough a commanding half-time lead.

The second half, however, told a different story. AFC Andrews came out firing, piling on pressure and forcing Harborough onto the defensive. Around the hour mark, the visitors reduced the deficit after Avwerosuo Emekeme spilled a long-range effort that was pounced upon for 4–1.

Harborough nearly restored their cushion when Witkowski’s powerful run and strike were superbly denied by the visiting keeper, but with ten minutes remaining, AFC Andrews struck again from distance to set up a nervy finish.

Thankfully for the Spencers, that proved to be the final goal of the afternoon, as they showed resilience to see the game out and progress to Round Three.

There were several standout performances in an entertaining contest, particularly in the first half, but it was Farid Hamidou who edged Reece Mutebi to claim the Man of the Match honours.

Next up for Harborough Town Spencers is an away league fixture against second-placed Ambleside Athletic.
