Rob Morgan scored, and Liam Dolman opened his account for the club as Harborough Town produced a professional victory over in-form Redditch United on a cold, crisp evening at the Beehive.

Third-placed Redditch arrived in exceptional form and began the match with real intensity. The Reds signalled their intention early on with Fabian Reynolds bursting forward in the first minute and testing Elliot Taylor twice inside the opening ten. After the game, Mitch Austin admitted, “It was going to be a tough game today against the red-hot form team in the league.”

The away side continued to impose themselves on the game, spraying the ball around well. Their best chance of the match fell to skipper Reece Flanagan after the visitors pounced on a loose Devon Kelly-Evans pass. Reynolds darted down the left before pulling the ball back into a dangerous central area for Flanagan to open the scoring. However, Taylor produced a huge save, making himself big to deny the midfielder. The moment proved pivotal, shifting the momentum in the Bees’ favour. Austin later praised his keeper, saying, “We’ve got a lot of clean sheets because we have an unbelievable goalkeeper.”

Harborough responded by growing into the game, with Rob Morgan stepping in superbly for the missing Connor Kennedy and Devon Kelly-Evans beginning to establish control of the midfield. Riley O’Sullivan made a couple of surging runs down the left flank, winning two corners in quick succession. The second of which led to the breakthrough in the 18th minute. A well-drilled set-piece saw Kelly-Evans deliver a floating cross into a crowded six-yard area. Redditch failed to head the ball away from danger, with the ball glancing into the path of Liam Dolman, who powered a commanding header into the top corner for his first goal for the club. A tongue-in-cheek Austin joked afterwards, “I was disappointed the fans didn’t run on the pitch after chanting all season, ‘If Dolman scores, we’re on the pitch.’”

The Bees’ confidence grew as the half progressed, with David Kamara wasting a glorious chance after breaking clear down the left and Josh Walsh firing just wide, while the Reds’ early intensity visibly faded. Harborough doubled their lead 6 minutes into the second half. O’Sullivan showed strength and determination to win the ball in the middle of the park before playing a perfectly weighted ball down the line to Kamara, who drove forward with urgency, before cutting inside and squeezing the ball through to Morgan. The midfielder skilfully adjusted his feet to bring the ball onto his left and calmly slot past Tyrese Warmington. Morgan produced a man-of-the-match display, tirelessly involving himself in every phase of play, echoed by Austin, who said, “he ran the midfield.”

The game slowly fizzled out with both sides exhibiting tired legs. Redditch failed to create a goal-scoring threat late on, although they applied pressure which Harborough soaked up resiliently. As ever, the Bees remained compact and disciplined with Dolman and George Carline, dealing with everything thrown at them.

The win keeps Harborough top and unbeaten in the league. However, the games continue to come thick and fast, with the Bees now preparing for an all-Leicestershire affair, travelling to 17th placed Barwell in the inaugural Brady Hickey derby this Saturday, the 29th of November.
