Harborough Town U21s played their last home game of the season in style with a 3–1 victory over Desborough Town Reserves, capping off a memorable season in front of their supporters and bringing a fitting close to their campaign at the Beehive.
The visitors struck first in the 26th minute, taking advantage of a set-piece that wasn’t properly cleared after initial pressure inside the Harborough penalty area. Louie Hagan reacted quickest in the box to tap home from close range and give Desborough a 1–0 lead, momentarily silencing the home crowd.
The response from the young Bees was immediate and impressive, underlining the character and quality that has defined their season. Showing composure and precision through the middle of the pitch, Shaan Virk picked out Archie O’Donnell in space, who rifled a powerful strike into the bottom corner from 18 yards to level the score at 1–1 heading into half-time, ensuring the sides went in all square at the break.
After the restart, Harborough took control of proceedings and began to dictate the tempo of the game. Cyprian Mtenga put the hosts ahead with a superb effort from 20 yards, finding the net with a confident and well-struck finish to make it 2–1, as the Bees continued to press forward with purpose.
The victory was sealed when substitute Oliver Price was played through on goal by Archie O’Donnell following a well-timed pass that split the defence. Price showed great composure to beat the goalkeeper at his near post, making it 3–1 and putting the result beyond doubt as Harborough saw out the closing stages comfortably.
At full-time, celebrations continued as the young Bees were presented with the UCL Reserves League title, marking a significant achievement for the squad. It was a fitting end to their final home game of the season, with players sharing the moment alongside family and friends in memorable scenes that reflected the hard work and commitment shown throughout the campaign.
After the match, U21 Head Coach Josh Unsworth said:
“Today was pretty special.
Seeing the lads lift up the trophy in front of their loved ones and the news coming out that the first team have also won the league, it’s an emotional day for the football club.
The 25/26 season will be remembered for years and years.”
