Spalding United 0

Harborough Town 2 Stephens (56’), Starkie (75’)

A tight affair between two teams on the edge of the play-offs and only separated by goal difference in league places.

The first half lived up to that billing with clear chances at a premium – the home side applying the pressure without testing Elliott Taylor in the visitors goal, and two chances for the Bees – the first by Alex Morris who prodded a shot goalwards through a crowded penalty box that was smothered by Spalding keeper Aaron Chapman; and the best chance of the half falling to Ben Stephens who was put through by Dan Cooper, Stephens seeing his goal-bound shot somehow saved by the outstretched boot of Chapman.

The hosts started the second half brightly but it was Bees midfielder Rob Morgan feeding Ben Starkie down the right who beat Nathan Fox for pace and whipped a cross into the box that wasn’t dealt with by the home side, and Bees top-scorer Ben Stephens was there to lash home on the side-volley giving Chapman no chance.

Mitch Austin’s side tried to capitalise on their advantage as chances fell to Stephens
