It has taken a few days to get over such a busy weekend at the club! Saturday saw a bumper day of youth tournament football as over 52 Boys teams across 4 age groups contested for honours, whilst Sunday saw the turn of 12 Girls teams in tournament action. Our Vets team were away playing in an invitational final match; whilst our first team were being treated to a coaching masterclass by England C Manager Paul Fairclough and England C goalkeeping coach and technical manager Mick Payne.
🐝 Congratulations to the winners of the youth competitions and we hope all teams whether those that won, lost or drew all enjoyed the day.
🐝 On the calm oasis of the main pitch Paul and Mick put our first team through their paces both on and off the pitch. A healthy breakfast followed by some classroom sessions including introspective learning about each other to build team understanding and purpose. As the rain eased the team could stretch their legs and get out playing small-sided games and training drills.
🐝 The Harborough Town Vets’ got their pre-season off to a winning start by beating Markfield 2-1 in an invitational final and after collecting their silverware are now raring to go for some further pre-season matches and cannot wait for their league season to kick-off. Photo is of the jubilant vets!
Thank You’s:
Paul and Mick – massive respect, admiration, and gratitude from our first team players, management and back-room staff who will benefit from the sessions you gave, and we look forward to welcoming you both back as the season progresses!
To all the youth teams who joined us for this weekend’s tournaments – we wish you all well for the season ahead.
And lastly to the many Harborough Town staff, volunteers, helpers, referees, coaches, players and parents who helped make a successful weekend possible down at the BeeHive!
First-team pre-season matches:
🐝 Tonight saw the first team kick off their pre-season at home to St. Ives Town. A very late goal for St. Ives saw them run out 1-0 winners, but importantly for manager Mitch Austin, who was able to almost select two different XI’s for each half, seeing the players being so competitive against a Step 3 team bodes well for the future. We wish St. Ives all the best for their season ahead.
🐝 On Saturday 10th we are at home for the Carl Westbury Memorial Cup vs St. Andrews – and we look to some music after the match too! Entry is just £5 for the match and live music from the The Smarties in the evening with food. So we hope to see many of you stay after the game to relax and enjoy some summer sun! (*Weather not guaranteed!)
