t was a home debut to remember for Dempsey Arlott-John as his first half strike earned Harborough Town the victory over Cambridge City.

The Bees’ new forward started brightly, holding up the ball to set up a chance for Josh Walsh that curled just wide of the post, before his own curling effort nestled into the bottom corner emphatically to put the hosts ahead.

Arlott-John nearly doubled his and Harborough’s tally soon after, with his effort bending just over the bar from a corner that was won by Dan Forbes’ deflected effort in the attack prior.

Cambridge looked dangerous down the flanks and tested the Harborough defence with low crosses, with the most threatening ball being cut out by Rhys Kelly before Jarid Robson could connect at the back post.

Theo Alexandrou tested Elliott Taylor as Cambridge grew further into the game but they could not get their names on the scoresheet before half time.

The second half saw less of a flow than it did in the first but chances in behind for Rhys Hoenes and Arlott-John showcased the Bees’ threat on the counter, while their defence stood firm to deny Cambridge any clear cut chances and ultimately earn the three points.
