Free-scoring Bees see off Coventry United 7-0 as they continue to build towards the season.

The first chance of the game came in the fourth minute for Harborough as Silvio Bello cut inside and hit a shot which was deflected wide. Their first shot of the game arrived in the tenth minute when it fell to Callum Powell, whose shot was saved down to the goalkeeper’s right.

After a quiet ten minutes, Powell ran at Coventry United’s defence and smashed a shot wide of the goal before The Bees took the lead from the spot in the 28th minute, which former Coventry United man Riley O’Sullivan converted; it came from Devon Kelly-Evans floated free-kick, which hit the defender’s hand while wrestling with Alex Morris.

O’Sullivan doubled the lead in the 30th minute, volleying a corner straight into the back of the net. Minutes later, they got a third when Powell ran up the right wing and played a ball across the box, which was tapped in at the back post by Trialist. The Bees found a fourth with the last kick of the half, very similar to the third as Powell put a ball across the box finished by Trialist.

Coventry United had the first chance of the second half when their number 11 got on the end of a ball played through, who was tackled by Liam Dolman. Substitute Danny Newton scored a fifth in the 57th minute as the Coventry defender struggled to deal with a cross, and it eventually fell to Newton, who slotted it past the goalkeeper into the bottom-right corner.

The Coventry United keeper was forced into a good save down to his right in the 63rd minute as Rob Morgan ran through the opposition and played a good ball into Terell Pennant, who had the shot. The same link-up led to the Bees’ sixth goal less than a minute later, and Pennant slotted it into the bottom-right corner.

Coventry United had their best chance of the game in the 70th minute after an attack down the right wing was squared back, and the Coventry attacker dragged a free shot wide of goal.

The Bees had a good chance in the 82nd minute as Pennant came running in to get on the end of a cross, which was headed clear for a corner. From the corner, George Carline got his head onto it, and it was cleared off the line by a Coventry defender.

Coventry United had a great chance in the 86th minute when an attack up the right was put into the box, and Carline made a crucial block from point blank range to deny the striker.

Pennant got his second of the game as he nipped in behind the defence, took it round the keeper, and put it into the empty net, making it seven for the Bees.

The Bees’ next game is back here at the Beehive against fellow Step 2 side Chesham United on Saturday, July 18 at 3pm.
