Leicestershire Women’s & Girls’ League Cup
Sunday 13th October 2024
Harborough Town Women 5 (Jasmine Hayes 10’, Jess Seaton 29’, 43’, 57’, Christie Ziebis 50’)
Leicester United 1 (39’)
Harborough Town Women claimed a 5-1 victory over Leicester United on Sunday, advancing to the 3rd round of the League Cup while extending their unbeaten run to six games.
Leicester United attempted to exploit Harborough’s right-hand side early in the first half, but found very little success due to the combined efforts of Defenders, Loreen Herzig and Christie Ziebis, and Defensive Midfielder, Lucy Mister, who adapted well to the game situation to provide additional defensive cover and control the first line of midfield. It was a breathless first half with the Bees leading 3-1 at half-time with strong defensive tracking and plenty of through balls. Continuing to dominate in the second half, Harborough added two more goals to their tally to seal a commanding win. Harborough’s defensive display limited Leicester United to long-range efforts giving Harborough’s stand-in keeper, Jody Knight, plenty of time to adjust and collect the ball into safe hands. During the second half, the Coe sisters, Eden and Grace (c), displayed their experience and composure under pressure. Their calm and collected approach in defence defused any attempt from Leicester United to get back in the game. Harborough made the most of their opportunities, showing versatility in their scoring, whether it was through quick counter-attacks, getting on the end of a well-timed cross, or wading through a wall of defence.
Scoring three hatricks in her last three games, Harborough Striker, Jess Seaton is on incredible scoring form. Meanwhile, Christie Ziebis finds the back of the net in her Harborough debut! Special shoutout to Jasmine Hayes, who picked up Player of the Match for her tireless work rate and pin-point passing. Honour Slater also received well-deserved recognition, earning the Player of the Match award from the opposition. Thank you to Leicester United for making the journey. We look forward to playing you again in the near future.
