Leicestershire Women’s & Girls League – Division 2
Sunday 27th October, 2024
Brookside Athletic 4 (2’, 4’, 13’, 39’)
Harborough Town Women 2 (Dom Ratcliffe-McLelland 74’, Christie Ziebis 85’)
Harborough Town Women faced a challenging fixture against top-of-the-table Brookside Athletic, falling just short to the home team with a full-time score of 4-2.
Brookside came out strong, quickly taking control with a flurry of goals throughout the first half, establishing a sizeable 4-0 lead. Harborough struggled to contain Brookside’s early momentum, but they entered the second half with a resolve to turn the game around.
As the match wore on, Brookside began to show signs of fatigue. Harborough capitalised on this, pressing harder and finding openings to break down Brookside’s defense. Jasmine Hayes helped lead the charge, consistently driving the ball forward, breaking through the opposition’s midfield, and putting their defense under pressure. Her relentless commitment to tackles and her ability to carry the ball forward disrupted Brookside’s structure and created space for her teammates to exploit.
In the second half, Dom Ratcliffe-McLelland and Christie Ziebis each found the back of the net to close the gap. Dom Ratcliffe-McClelland’s goal was a standout moment, rewarding the team for its patience and perseverance. Shortly after, Christie Ziebis delivered a stunning goal using the outside of her foot in the 85th minute, bringing the score to a respectable 4-2.
For her consistent commitment, tenacity in tackles, and ability to drive forward and break the opposition’s lines, Jasmine Hayes earned Player of the Match. She provided a spark for Harborough’s second-half resurgence, keeping Brookside on their toes and disrupting their rhythm.
Despite the loss, Harborough look to carry the momentum of their second-half performance into their upcoming home fixture against Leicester City.
