Trustee for Harborough Town FC
Due to some recent restructuring within the group, Harborough Town Football Club is looking to bring a new Trustee onto our Board of Trustees. See below for more information on the role and for details on applying.

Reports To: Chair of the Board of Trustees

Job Purpose:
The Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring the proper governance of Harborough Town Football Club, contributing to strategic decisions, safeguarding the club’s assets, and promoting its objectives. Trustees ensure that the club operates in a way that is legally compliant, financially sound, and aligned with its mission and values.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in the field of HR is a specific area that we are looking to bring into the club as we now employ a number of full time staff, as well as a large number of volunteers.
  • A passion for learning about how a football club is run from the inside.
  • Experience in a professional organisation that has faced various challenges would be helpful


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Oversight:
  • Help develop and approve the club’s long-term strategy, mission, and vision.
  • Monitor the implementation of strategic goals and the performance of the club in achieving those objectives.
  • Advise on significant decisions such as club mergers, acquisitions, or major operational changes.
  1. Governance & Compliance:
  • Ensure the club complies with legal and regulatory requirements, including financial regulations and club licensing standards.
  • Oversee the club’s adherence to governance policies, including conflict of interest, transparency, and accountability.
  • Participate in board meetings and contribute to discussions on the club’s strategy, policy, and direction.
  1. Financial Stewardship:
  • Ensure sound financial management and approve annual budgets and financial statements.
  • Review and advise on financial reports to ensure that the club is financially stable and sustainable.
  • Identify opportunities for securing funding, sponsorships, or investment to support the club’s operations.
  1. Risk Management:
  • Identify and manage key risks affecting the club, including financial, operational, and reputational risks.
  • Work with senior management to develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Represent the club’s interests to external stakeholders such as supporters, sponsors, and governing bodies.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the club in the community and media when necessary.
  1. Club Development & Legacy:
  • Provide advice and support on the club’s community engagement, youth development, and social responsibility programs.
  • Work towards building a positive legacy for the club, ensuring that its future development is sustainable and community-focused.
  1. Leadership & Decision-Making:
  • Contribute to the decision-making process in a constructive manner.
  • Be an advocate for the club’s values and ensure that decisions are aligned with the club’s objectives and ethos.
  1. Adherence to Ethical Standards:
  • Maintain integrity and avoid conflicts of interest in all dealings with the club.
  • Uphold the values of transparency, fairness, and accountability.

Time Commitment:

  • Attendance at regular board meetings (typically monthly or quarterly).
  • Involvement in committees or working groups as required.
  • Occasional attendance at club events or external meetings.

  • This is a voluntary position
